A Fall Road Trip to see the Lakes of Vermont



Autumn is the best time of the year for a Vermont road trip because the fall foliage is unbelievable..  Check in at the Willoughvale Inn on Lake Willoughby and enjoy a great meal and a drink in Gil's Grill.  Start your trip the next day and head north from nearby Westmore VT, you head north for a short half hour drive to Newport VT.

WOW, the beautiful fall foliage along the roadside is amazing!  Newport is located on beautiful Lake Memphremagog.  A brief stop for some photos and some unforgettable sightseeing.

Leaving Newport and Lake Memphremagog, we head west toward Lake Champlain.  The largest lake in Vermont, spanning into Canada and to northern New York state.  We arrive in the Lake Champlain region after a beautiful two hour drive across Vermont.  Arriving in the St. Albans Bay area, we settle in for more great lake side sightseeing and a fantastic lunch.

Heading back east it is a 3 1/2 hour ride surrounded by the beautiful color show of the Autumn leaves.  Back at the Willoughvale Inn settle in for a nightcap and a look at your photos of some memories that will last a life time.  Off in the morning for some fishing on Lake Willoughby or your next adventure.

Gil's Bar & Grill

We're open Tuesday through Sundays for dinner until 8:00 PM!  Stop in for a snack or a great meal.  The view of lake Willoughby from the inn is amazing.  Spend a few days with us and there are free canoes and trail bikes available.



Summer is finally here!  Stop in and lets chill with a cool drink or a quick snack before you return to the trails or the lake.  It's always great to see our old friends and our new friends from across New England and down to New York and Pennsylvania.


The Vermont kingdom is the place to be this Summer.  There are activities and places of interest for the whole family.  The water park and the lake for the kids and just some great relaxation for mom and dad.  The mountain bike trails are great for everyone as are the lake activities.  Go for a fun day and stop in at Gil's and tell us about your day.

Cruising in Vermont

Planning a northeast vacation this year?

Whether you cruise Vermont's back roads or the main roads or for more adventure you may enjoy a bike ride through the Vermont mountain trails.  Whatever your pleasure may be, you will definitely create some wonderful memories and enjoy a truly memorable experience.


Take a drive and visit Vermont's farms, quaint shops, flea markets, local attractions and so much more.  Take a bike tour of the Vermont Mountains.

Other activities nearby at the Willoughvale Inn include canoeing on Lake Willoughby, biking on the many trails directly from the inn or you may want to just relax on the beach or on the deck of one of our lakeside cottages.  The sunset is site to remember and a cold drink at Gil's Grille at the inn will add to the pleasures of your visit.

Free Trail Bikes and Canoes

When you stay with us at the Willoughvale Inn, we want you to enjoy all aspects of our inn and the Vermont mountains.  Our location is remote enough, yet convenient to all of the Vermont attractions.  We are on beautiful Lake Willoughby and we offer free use of our canoes on the lake, plus we have a few trail bikes that you can use to do some trail biking on the mountain trails.



For a small rental you can rent our motor boat for a fun time on the lake.  If cruising the mountain road is your think stay with us and we can help you plan your day visiting the local antique shops, farms, fairs and theaters.

Lake Willoughby is Calling You

The Vermont summer Season is on in Full Swing! 

When you head north on Interstate Highway 91 past Interstate 89, just a short distance off the highway, you will find the Willoughvale Inn on beautiful Lake Willoughby and nearby is the Clyde River and Willoughby State Park, plus so much more for a great week or weekend of fun and relaxation.

From the inn, you are convenient to the Jay Peak area, including the Pump House Waterpark.  For drive through the mountains you should visit the shops or theatres in St. Johnsbury, Danville and Burke Hollow.
