Waterfront Activity Area at the WilloughVale Inn

Summer is in full swing at the WilloughVale Inn and guests are having a fabulous time in the Northeast Kingdom. Popular activities are hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, scuba diving, golfing, horseback riding, visiting Jay Peak's Pump House, and nature explorations.

However, many of our guests choose to stay right here at the Inn and enjoy all the amenities that we have to offer. We have a waterfront activity area that is perfect for soaking up the rays and playing in and around the lake. The view is breathtaking and it is common to not want to leave once you discover all there is to offer!

At the Inn and waterfront activity area enjoy:
  water trampoline
  a large playground for kids
  a firepit for toasting marshmallows
complimentary use of canoes and kayaks
  badminton
  lounge chairs to settle into
  basketball court
  game room
  DVD rentals
complimentary continental breakfast (for main inn guests)
dining at Gil's Bar & Grill

Lake Willoughby is quiet and serene, however, you need not worry about a lack of activities! There is plenty to do in the Northeast Kingdom and right here at the Inn.

Dining in the Northeast Kingdom

When visiting the Northeast Kingdom, you are bound to get hungry. Luckily, the NEK is a foodie’s paradise. From fine dining, to diners, to farmers markets, there is something to please every taste bud! The towns of the kingdom are dotted with local country stores where you can pick up a quick snack or freshly made sandwich - or even an infamous pizza if you stumble upon Parker Pie in West Glover! Parker Pie is a local favorite, along with Miss Lyndonville Diner for a traditional Vermont diner experience and Lago Trattoria if you are in the mood for Italian. The Kingdom is well known for craft beers, spirits and farm-to-table offerings. Just let us know what mood you are in and we can help you with suggestions!

Of course our favorite place to dine is right here at the WilloughVale Inn at Gil’s Bar & Grill. Gil’s is casual and cozy, with a view of the lake and a variety of light fare, entrees and drinks.  Have a cup of French Onion Soup, a Caesar salad, Burger or Flat Iron Steak, we trust you will not be disappointed – and be sure to save room for dessert!

Gil’s is open this winter Thursdays through Saturdays from 5:00 – 8:00pm and the bar opens at 4:30pm. In addition to our regular dining hours, we will also be serving dinner January 15, 2017 and February 19, 2017. We hope to welcome you to Gil’s during your next visit to the Northeast Kingdom!

Winter in the Northeast Kingdom!

Winter has arrived in the Northeast Kingdom! With early snow this season it is time to switch gears and that means changing gear!  Put away those bikes, hiking shoes and swimsuits, and dust off your skis, boards, snowshoes, ice climbing equipment and of course the snowmobiles. One thing you can keep out is your fishing pole – ice fishing is very popular on lake Willoughby, just trade in the canoe for a shanty and you are good to go!

The WilloughVale is a four-season Inn, a perfect home base for all your winter adventures. When the lake freezes over the activity continues with ice fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Along the edge of the lake you can ice climb up Mt. Pigah, one of the most renowned climbing experiences in the Northeast, although this is not for the novice climber, experience is a must for scaling the 300’ steep cliff walls.

For the snowmobiling enthusiasts the Inn is conveniently located on the VAST trail. Be sure to ask about our VAST Member Discounts - offered all season long!

After a busy day of winter adventures, return to your room or cottage at the Inn, relax and take in the sweeping view of Lake Willoughby, equally breathtaking in every season.
